We get asked about accuracy guarantees, and honestly, we cringe a little when it comes up. So instead of a guarantee, here is a straight conversation about what is realistic — and what we actually see come off the range.
What drives accuracy
Roughly in order of how much each one matters.
- Barrel quality
- Ammunition quality
- Shooter ability
- Conditions
- Quality of work performed
- Action, stock and bedding
What we expect to see
| Heavy barrel target or tactical buildComplete rifle, our build | ¼″ or less at 100 yd |
| The same rifle at distanceMost get closer to 1″ with good load development | under 1.5″ at 400 yd |
| Larger calibers over 30 cal338 magnums and similar — usually a recoil management story | around ⅜″ at 100 yd |
| Sporter and lighter barrelsWhat we expect from our own | ½″ at 100 yd |
| Barreled action in a good chassisAICS and similar | same as above |
| HS, Bell & Carlson and similarCan be hit or miss without bedding | bedding recommended |
On a complete heavy barreled target or tactical rifle we expect to see no paper between the bullet holes at 100 yards. A quarter inch is the realistic number to hold us to.
Test targets
Our testing policy
Most rifles are test fired for function only and are not accuracy tested. The ones that are accuracy tested come back with test targets and, where applicable, load data. Testing and load development is real work, and we do not do it for free.
If you have a concern about the accuracy of your rifle and we cannot work it out over the phone, send it back here for evaluation. If there is a problem, we fix it at no charge.
If there is no problem and the rifle shoots the way it should, you will get it back with test targets, load data — and a bill.
